CMR Waybill

What is a CMR Waybill?

A CMR waybill is a transport document for an international transport which is carried out based on the CMR "Convention relative au contrat de transport international de marchandises par route".

The CMR waybill is a standardised waybill in which the most important information and components of a contract of carriage are documented according to the CMR guidelines. The issue, handling and exact content of the consignment note is regulated by the "International Agreement on contracts of carriage in road freight transport".

This transport document has several carbon copies, which must be signed by both the sender and the carrier. The sender receives the first copy as proof that he has handed over the goods to the carrier. The other copies of the consignment note accompany the goods until delivery at the place of unloading. Here the recipient confirms receipt of the goods and hands over a countersigned CMR waybill to the carrier as proof that the carrier has delivered the goods. The CMR also regulates liability for transport damage.
