Order Picking System

What is an Order Picking System?

Picking is aimed at the order-specific combination of certain goods from an assortment, usually in a picking warehouse. The goods to be picked can be raw materials, auxiliary materials, finished goods and semi-finished products. The selected picking system is based on the time and space constraints regarding the provision, removal and delivery of the goods.

As a rule, picking systems are divided into information systems, organisation systems and material flow systems. Thus, the information required for order processing can be transmitted either optically (pick-by-light), by radio data transmission or acoustically (pick-by-voice).
