RFID

What is RFID?

RFID refers to Radio Frequency Identification. It is an automatic identification method that has become widely used in many fields of application in recent years. Basically, RFID is a contactless communication technology that transmits information to identify goods, merchandise, animals and people.

The use of the RFID enables numerous new applications that have not been realisable with conventional identification systems so far. The RFID system works with electromagnetic waves that are emitted by a reader. The reader contains software that controls the reading process as well as middleware that has interfaces to other systems and databases.

The RFID differs from other contactless transmission systems in that the data is sent either automatically when it enters the reception range of a reader or only on demand.
