Warehouse Planning

What is Warehouse Planning?

Warehouse planning is a sub-complex of factory planning which includes the planning of material flows, the planning of conveying and handling equipment and the planning of the warehouse infrastructure.

The aim of warehouse planning is to minimise high warehousing costs which arise, for example, from low capacity utilisation, outdated warehouse technology or complex organisation. A further aim can be to increase the degree of automation. Efficient warehouse planning requires a holistic solution because the pure investment in new warehouse or transport technology is useless if it is not well thought out. In the worst case, this can even result in an extension of storage and transport times. For this reason, the objectives to be pursued with warehouse planning must first be carefully examined and restrictions must be worked out.
