Saloodo’s digital freight forwarder platform is growing and simplyfing peoples life. But who are the people behind the monitors, working hours before you are even able to push the registration button?

Saloodo! is constantly growing (50+ countries: yay!) and acquiring new team members.  To help us keep our financial systems and administrative processes running smoothly, we are so happy to have our Juliane Linck, Senior Financial Controller. Say hello to her!

Who are you? Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m Juliane, 28 years old and from Bonn in the beautiful Rhineland. I’m a Senior Financial Controller with over 9 years working experience in different Accounting and Controlling departments within the group of Deutsche Post DHL.

In my free time I love to spend time with my 7-year-old Friesian pinto mare “Marie”.  Since COVID, I’m passionate to go for runs or hikes in the beautiful nature of the Siebengebirge.

What is your task at Saloodo! ?

At Saloodo I’m working as Senior Controller in the Finance team. Finance – of course it’s about number crunching – but it’s also so much more.

I’m responsible that all our financial data is accurately and follows German and international accounting standards. Despite this I’m in close contact with our Operations dept. and Management to give insights about our financial situation, doing analysis to steer our business, identify problems/chances and look into our financial future. On top of that, we have a long list of new projects where I’m able to define and develop our finance processes and requirements.

Last year was challenging in many aspects - how did you and team respond?

Our Finance team as also other dep. at Saloodo! moved to Home office. In the beginning it was quite challenging to keep being informed about everything which is going on in the team as normally we would sit in one room, and it’s easier to get information from everyone at the same time. But at the end we managed quite good with daily Jour Fixes, a group chat and weekly surveys about our current mood.

As a Financial Controller - how is it to work for a start-up?

In a startup, you need to have a hands-on mentality, and you’re always quite close to the business. This makes my job as a controller fascinating as I’m involved in many topics which are not always standard finance procedures and I need to learn a lot from business side as well. Our to-do list is quite long, new projects are in pipeline where we need to define our finance processes and on top of that, we always try to improve our current processes, so this can be challenging, but it never gets boring…

What can’t be missed in Rhineland by a visitor? What are your personal highlights?

Spots which can’t be missed in the Rhineland are for sure the Siebengebirge, Cologne’s Cathedral and my hometown Bonn. For adrenaline junkies, I can highly recommend “Phantasialand” in Brühl.

My personal highlights would be Drachenburg castle and usually the carnival season.

Tell us something, nobody knows about you? Is there a skill you have, others don’t know about?

Some people might know that I can match a movie quote or scene in my head to almost every situation.
